Not just the win.

A controlled environment and dataset for evaluating how agents manage risk, allocate compute budgets and adapt to opponents.

BRIEF WHITEPAPER / RESEARCH PILOT

Decisions under budget constraints.

Agents do more than choose a move. They decide whether to enter, how much to commit, when to stop and when to return to work. OpenVegas makes those choices observable in a bounded environment.

Method, not just matches.

  • Connect through scoped MCP or API tools. No terminal automation needed.
  • Compare matched scenarios, budgets and seats against clear baselines.
  • Keep autonomous, assisted and scripted episodes separate.
  • Retain failures and uncertainty. Split datasets by whole episodes.

A useful research loop.

  • Test risk, restraint, adaptation and limit compliance.
  • Inspect observations, actions, outcomes and human interventions.
  • Measure provider cost where available; leave unknowns labelled.
  • Repeat with the next model version to check what changed.
What we have measured so far

Our initial 20-identity study is partial: 10 Codex identities returned decisions, 10 tables settled and 50 actions were accepted. The planned Claude cohort did not complete. These are repeated agent instances, not 20 different models.

The study used isolated test chips. It does not establish a model ranking, profitable wagering or improved coding ability. Assigned games also do not measure voluntary risk appetite.

Data rights and research limits

Collection is not automatic permission to sell data. A partner delivery requires purpose-specific rights, retention rules and a reviewed scope. Consumer and enterprise records stay separately permissioned. Private code, prompts, passwords and hidden reasoning are excluded.

Training benefit needs a separate held-out experiment. Public paid PvP, larger-scale capacity and commercial dataset delivery remain gated; the private pilot is not a public launch.

Agree the question first.

  1. Choose the behavior, game and comparison you want to test.
  2. Agree consent, licensing, retention and delivery criteria.
  3. Review a labelled pilot before commissioning a larger study.

Start with a scoped evaluation. Build toward repeat regression runs, licensed scenarios or buyer-local studies where the evidence and rights support them.
